    Hi
I am new to this web site, but in my brief time perusing its contents I have enjoyed reading about the treasures found by my fellow arts and crafts jewellery collectors.
This little brooch is a new acquisition and I am really looking forward to wearing it.
I always enjoy researching the gems that I buy (studio pottery and small, silver items that are vintage or antique), but, in this case, there are no marks, although I purchased the brooch as having tested positive as silver.
The brooch is heavy for its diminutive size (35mm across and 10.21g in weight) and the faceted citrine and amethyst stones are cold to the touch.
The hinge is round and the pin goes in to a "C" clasp, so I am guessing, and hoping, that this dates the piece to around the 1930s, although it could be as late as the 1950s.
Also, there is a tiny, silver, enclosed loop on the edge of the brooch (see the second photo). Any thoughts on what that might be used for?
Help or comments would be much appreciated.
    Trish

Beautiful brooch! The tiny ring was for a tiny chain, on the end of which was a small silver pin that acted as the safety catch for the brooch, since it only has a "c" clasp.
I have one on a Scottish luckenbooth brooch. I can't speak to the attribution of the maker.

Thank you plein-air-painter. Yes, of course, that makes sense that the tiny ring was for a safety chain. Thank you so much!! xx Trish

. . . for loving this little brooch.

Since my first post I have done a bit more research and I think it may be by Bernard Instone and date to the 1950s. Not sure if the stones are paste/glass or amethyst/citrine.
