    These cast iron signs were once used to mark waterway crossings on state highways, as well as entrances to state parks in New Jersey. A few are still left out there, but not many. I got this one at a nice price and then had a lot of help getting it restored. Aside from the prepping and painting, the bottom needed to be cut level, smoothed and drilled for mounting.

      Yes, the small amount of original paint was black on white.

      Great sign! Do you know its age? I grew up along the Passaic River, near where it’s joined by the Saddle River, but haven’t seen one like this.

      MMNJ, I believe these date back to the 1920s and '30s. You grew up close to where I did. :)

      Thank you for the information. I have one of these signs for Mantua Creek with the original cast iron pole it was mounted on. Unfortunately, mine is broken into peices, so I'll have find someone to fix it.
