My great grandfathers pocket knife was made in Solingen, Germany as can be seen in the picture. Also engraved on blade looks like “GURTSNACHF”. I have searched on that word and also replaced the “A” with an “O” as they are hard to make out but nothing comes up. The knife is 8” long in total with a 4” blade. I have cleaned the knife, oiled it and tried to close it but have been unsuccessful. It looks like it should close based on what looks like a hinge at the base of the blade, the storage slot for the blade in the handle and the ring to hook onto when closed. I have also looked for a latch or a release but there isn’t any. Would anyone happen to have some information on this knife and also a view of whether it should close or not? Thank you in advance for any information and assistance you maybe able to provide.
Lookup CURDTS NACHF' (Curdts Nachfolger), Solingen Knives
Resembles a ratchet knife where you lift the ring to fold the blade.
Thanks for the lead flashlarue. I will do some research with the right spelling this time.
Blunderbuss2 you were correct. I pulled up on the ring and was able to close the knife. So simple and not sure how I couldn’t figure that out. I think this is the first time it’s been closed in 50 years.
Good show that.
