Hello everyone!!
I just acquired this bronze rabbit with baskets. All of my research indicates that this rabbit is German. The legend has it that, on the night before Easter, children would set these baskets out or even hang them on a small tree. The next morning the children would find candy and treats in these little baskets, left by the Easter bunny, hence the Easter basket that we all know so well today originated from this German tradition. These baskets are original to this rabbit as these were all marketed with a set of three bronze woven baskets. I'm still not sure of the age of this one, but I'm told that this particular version is from the very early 1900's or possibly earlier.
I have a few similar bronze rabbits with baskets, but this particular one has several differences from my others. For instance, the rabbit's fur in much more defined as are the details of his face, ears and paws. This one stands 8 7/8" tall, whereas the others I own are only 8 1/4" tall and not nearly as detailed as this one.
Pic #4 shows all of my little bronze rabbits together. If you look at each one closely you’ll find that no two are alike. Though similar in appearance, these were each made by different manufacturers.
Thanks very much for stopping by for a look!!!
