Now lets talk about a furnace worked piece of Art Glass. This Loetz vase has an oil spot surface decoration. But thats just the start.
The real craftsmanship is in the partially marvered, randomly applied glass threading. This culminates in these deep circular flourishes in the surface of the vase. These deep crevasses allow the surface area of the vase to double, helping to highlight the iridescence from the oil spotting.
A piece that looks so simple was actually a technological challenge to bring to life.
Attached is a piece I owned with the same decor, but with sea shells added to the surface.
