    After being locked up in a bank vault for over 80 years, an identifying mark has been found. --- The second of two of the most historically valuable brooches resulting from World War II. ------ Once the P-39 Airacobra Brooch was taken apart, and using a Amscope UHM350-11 High Definition Photographic Digital Electron Microscope, the letters and numbers were discovered. --- LED lighting, controlled low level and no light, controlled intensity, and lighting angle, was critical in this discovery. ----- The letters and numbers are just the opposite of "normal" identifying marks --- The background is pushed in leaving the letters and numbers the same height as the original, platinum metal surface ---- The propeller blade surface is curved downward in multiple directions resulting in more of a impression on the thicker part of the propeller blade. -- and a lighter impression on the thinner part of the propeller blade --- probably initiated or applied under high heat and high pressure. ------- all screw on and pressed on attachments are platinum, the body and wings are silver. ------- Pure platinum has a melting temperature of 3,222 degrees F --- and a hardness of 3.5 on the Mohs scale ---- ( Pure silver has a melting temperature of 1763 degrees F and a hardness of 2.5 on the Mohs scale ) ----- There are no marks, or impressions on the opposing side of the propeller blade, indicating that the identifying letters and numbers were pressed in at the metal formation stage of manufacture. ------- Normally the identifying marks are pressed in or hammered into the metal with the letters and numbers being pushed into the metal leaving the background at the normal metal height. -------- Tap on the above picture # 2 to magnify and look at the bottom righthand propeller blade for location of the identification stamp or marking. ------ The marking indicates -- GVII -- shown in picture # 3 --- meaning --- "ORDER OF VICTORY" - WW II. ( Victory in Europe or "V-E Day" ) ---------- This Bell P-39 Airacobra - "Order of Victory Commendation" - was presented to Lawrence Dale "Larry" Bell in July of 1945, in secret, by King Peter II, of Yugoslavia, - Godson and Envoy of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, of Great Britain / United Kingdom. -------- NOTE: The Country and/or Military of Yugoslavia did not order, purchase or utilize the Bell P-39 Airacobra at any time during World War Two. ----------- In comparison to Joseph Stalin's, Russian, "Order of Victory" Commendation, presented to United States General Dwight D. Eisenhower, in 1945, the etched marking is -- V II -- ( Victory in World War II ) -- shown in picture # 4 -- and is etched into the metal on the inside of the Commendation. ---- ( High Definition Photographs of General Dwight D. Eisenhower's -- actual -- "Order of Victory Commendation" was provided by -- Troy Elkins, Museum Registrar, at "The Dwight D.
