WWI Trench Art Stolen by USPS
The idea of this post is, someday in the future some one will search the internet and find my post. They will then know the truth, that this piece belongs to me and I paid for it. I have not got my money back and will continue to file reports.
I purchased this one of a kind WWI trench art shell from an etsy seller in Belgium on December 3rd, 2020. The shell was shipped from Belgium via Happy Post till it arrived in New York ISP, where USPS tracking took over..then to Queens New York Distribution Center.
At 5:45am December 29th, the package was scanned to Puyallup Washington post office. This is the city I live in. BUT then it moved the the Kent Washington post office on January 7th, 2021.
I spent several hours on the phone trying to track it down, including communicating with the local post master.
At first they told me that the label was missing my house address. IMPOSSIBLE because etsy error checks your labels with their software AND the seller verified my address several times! THEN the story changes...and USPS says the whole label is missing. NEXT they claim its being shipped back to Belgium...another lie! WELL..next they say maybe it went to the Atlanta lost mail facility. BY THE WAY, you have zero way to directly contact Atlanta via email or phone and supposedly neither can USPS.
I proceeded filing reports with USPS webpage, , manually with the local post master, including detailed descriptions and photos...its not like you could miss this thing! HERE'S the scam..you have to keep filing reports, because every few months they expire.
MY OPINION
It was stolen by a USPS employee at the Kent facility. It had a label and was tracked to that point before it disappeared into thin air. They claimed it left that facility but never did.
It did not go back to Belgium. And I've bought other items from that seller since that made it here.
And it did not make it to Atlanta because there is no scan trace. There is no urgency or accountability with USPS. They could care less what it is and how many packages they loose. They offer a matter of factly attitude towards your stolen items. I also contacted Consumer Industries that is in charge of the USPS...they don't care either and just tell you to file another report, all the while just closing it right after you file...yes, I have proof they did that
Wow Dave, that was a beautiful piece of trench art, so sorry. Really sympathize about the USPS foulup, I order things monthly and occasionally stuff gets misdirected, lost or as you surmised, probably stolen but no way to prove - I have a PO Box & am pretty sure some 'lost' stuff went to another boxholder who kept it. Just be encouraged that most of the time our items arrive, though often late since covid, it'll get better :)
Thank you. It's been over a year now..they changed their story several times...thats enough to know they lied and don't even care.
That's too bad that the USPS wouldn't do anything to resolve the issue. I had an item that I was awaiting patiently for and, on the day it was to be delivered, I received a notification on my phone that the item was just delivered to my front porch. I walked outside and no package. After filing a claim, and multiple attempts of reaching someone at the local USPS, I was told that the item had been delivered across town to the wrong address. Even though they confirmed it was delivered to the wrong address, they assured me they would pick it up from that address and deliver to me, I never received the package and was never paid for the claim by the USPS. So, I feel your pain 100% Dave.
Thanks for the comments. It's a one of a kind. Cannot be replaced and will show up somewhere....and hopefully they see this post.
Can't love this one Dave, I feel your pain.
can you still shoot that like that Dave ...'-P Nice write up ...
So sorry. I won't go into it here but I have a similar story involving customs.
