Man, the last time I built a WW1 warbird must have been 50 years ago. I bought 3 Revell model kits years ago at an Antique shop. Put them aside and later they got stashed away. I dug them out a few weeks ago. The 3 kits were made by Revell in 1969. They included the Sopwith Camel, a Spad and the DR1 Triplane. Of course 2 of the kits were missing a few important parts and are unbuildable. However, the DR1 was complete! So over the last few weeks it went from a stored away kit to a fully built replica. I like history as well. This Fokker DR1 represents one of the two originally built. The first one went the Richthofen . He chose to have his painted in an all red color scheme. Yeah, the Red Baron. The second DR1 went to Werner Voss, another famous Ace, second only to Richthofen in air victories. His plane was finished in standard Fokker colors at the time. The photos show what I came up with to duplicate the scheme. A dark green streaked pattern. Voss ended up with 48 shoot downs/victories/kills. In Sept 1917 he found himself in a dogfight, more-or-less alone, with 8 aces from a British squadron out on patrol. Instead of flying off to fight another day, he engaged. Before being shot down and killed he was able to put bullets into all of the planes he was up against. The 10 minute dogfight is said to be the most spectacular of WW1. Werner Voss was only 20 years old when killed in action.

Cool. I just bought a large Curtiss Jenny biplane. I'll try and post it later today or tomorrow..
