Primative Wood Table??

Hello, I am not sure what this is. I use it as a small side table. The construction and hardware are very old. When I looked at the bottom, it looks like it may have been another part to something else. Maybe attached to a colum post in a house? It is Tapered, 28" tall, Bottom is 14" square, Top is 11" square.
