Hello everyone!!
Here's one of the rarest doorstops I own. It's a cast iron "Dunce Bear" and only one of two bears I have in my collection. I've only seen two others in all of my years of collecting. One of those was unpainted and the other appeared to have been repainted. So, I repainted him to look like one of the versions I'd seen which in turn seems to bring him to life again. . It is not marked anywhere and I don't believe anyone has ever been able to determine which foundry cast this "Dunce Bear" doorstop. Some say that this doorstop is circa 1900 and others say even earlier than that. Either way, I feel very fortunate to have this doorstop as part of my collection. It measures 9 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" wide.
Thanks very much for stopping in to see my "Dunce Bear" doorstop!!!

Cool piece. Don't care for the paint job, kinda distracts from the piece. Looks xmas-y. Just my opinion ..

Thanks Dave!! I must agree on the paint. Not certain if it's original, but I don’t want to take any chances with disturbing the paint. It’s a very valuable piece, so I’ll keep it as is.
Love the colours, simple yet vivid and bright like in a play. Wonderful !~
Fantastic dunce bear, what an awesome rare find Scott! Reminds me of the performing bears of yrs past, a gorgeous design
Phil,
Thank you so very much for the wonderful comment!!!
Jenni,
Thanks so very much!! I know to most folks this wouldn't appear to be anything special, but in the doorstop world, this is a VERY lucky find. Now that you mention it, he is very reminiscent of the performing dancing bears.
