Trying to put a name to this!! Have had quite a few guesses, but no luck with a photo or document to verify!

It looks very familiar..is it a surveyors tripod? It would nice if we could see the whole thing and if you explained how it folds or unfolds..

I don't believe it would work as a tripod. First photo shows all of the bars folded. Second photo shows the bars splayed out and extended, it will not stand up on its own. Looks more like the back legs of an easel.

With the metal 'point' on the extendable part, it looks like it'd be a marking gauge for something. Does it look like there could have been an additional piece that passed horizontally thru the hole in the metal brackets on the other end?

Just guessing, I don't even know if those two thoughts would logically go together...???

For all I know, I could have it upside down in the photo!! One guess that I received is a Sign Painter’s Stand, but could not confirm!!

OK, here's the other thing I was thinking of but couldn't come up with the word for -- still really doesn't look correct, but could it be some form of pantograph device?

I believe it's part of a folding easel, missing some parts?
    7. BonaFide, 3 years ago
they would have a guy holding it with a thing on top...while the surveyors shot the grade like dave said kind of ..smiling ...my best guess...

Looks a little fragile for site work!!

      Could be missing parts!!

well it could part of a clothes dryer -saw one recently and was amazed- they fold up entirely made of wood, and would extend to hang wet clothes to dry -z???
