This was found in the box with the oil lamp burners shown a couple days ago, so I *believe* it could be related to them, thus I *believe* it may also be railroad related. [yup...I know that's a lotta 'believes'...I hope I'm not completely wrong about 'em all???]
It is a cast iron ring about 7" across and an inch wide, hinged on one side with tabs for a bolt on the other to hold it closed. The top (?) side of the ring is smooth, the bottom (?) has 8 shallow grooves spaced around it. There is a bracket on the back with a slightly wedge shaped fitting that looks like it would slide into another holder bracket kinda thing, and I use terms 'top' and 'bottom' here as if the wider side of the wedge is indeed meant to face UP.
It seems to have multiple layers of thick black paint on it, there is only one spot on the bracket part that *might* actually be a number or something cast into it, but the casting is generally rough as it is even before all the paint, and I haven't scraped any more paint off it to confirm that or not.
