Back in the days when Howard Johnson's and Holiday Inns were battling it out for America's 'traveler's lodging' business, these little games were displayed on HoJo's front counters, marketed for $1.98 as something that could keep the kids busy in the backseat on the way to the next HoJo. This one is still in its original bag, even?! A simple redwood triangle with 15 little holes, along with 14 wood golf tees, the object was to find a way to jump one peg over another in a line then remove it, until only one (or as few as possible) remained. Lowest 'running score' = highest 'IQ'.
This one is marked as (c) 1975 [by] Terry Savage, "HANDMADE BY AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN FROM SELECT REDWOODS" by Central Distributing Co. of South Carolina.
I don't think HoJo's had much of any 'exclusivity' to these games, at least beyond the ones they branded and sold themselves, because I also kinda remember the same things being often found on restaurant tables, and as marked 'souvenir items' from gift shops at all kinds of other places. They were (are?) also an easily replicated idea for do-it-yourself-er's projects, craft fairs, and all that kinda stuff.
Very cool.
