    Reportedly this was installed in the ceiling of our basement so great grandpa could listen to the radio while in the basement.

      THANK YOU JW_Mason for the additional pics!! VERY COOL item, indeed!!!
      It certainly must be (have been?) an unusual old radio accessory at least, probably also a pretty uncommon one -- also way fun that you still have its old porcelain knife switch and some of the (now crusty) wiring that went with it to allow it to work!
