I have two stoneware canning jars. The blue & white striper is easily identified, Western PA, etc, many similar examples. But so far I can find no other examples of a brown jar with black striping similar to the jar on the right. Is this jar just an oddity or can anyone give further info/identification? I bought it in eastern Ohio. Interesting coarse glaze, bottom not so coarse and rough. What do you think? Thanks!!!
Wish I could offer up any ID info. Love the jars. How tall are they? The mystery jar appears to have had the very faintest of what looks like a red stripe. Do you see it, a couple inches or so (depending on size of jar, hard to estimate measurements) above the black line? Really nice old storage jars. Hope one of our (CW) super knowledgeable early-American pottery experts comes across your post and can shed a little light. Best of luck! Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate your comments & feedback. They're about 8" tall. I tried to ascertain if there's another stripe but I can't see one above the black single stripe. YES I wish someone could enlighten me on the darker jar; the blue striper is well known (but I wish it would sell!) Thanks much!!!
