UPDATE NUMBER TWO:
Here's what I have learned about this set. My set is metal, at least I think it is. But maybe it isn't. It is heavy and the characters are a mystery. A fellow member, living in England - I live in the United States - spotted a bisque set of these same characters from a Face Book Market Place seller there in England. I contacted the seller. And he said they were made from molds he bought over twenty years ago and he couldn't remember from whom. But that gave me enough to start researching mold companies in the United Kingdom and I found the company who has these molds. After a few attempts via email and they happen to have a Face Book page too I finally got a response. And here is what they tell me:
"The mould Pottery crafts has, it has been in production since 1970’s and was purchased as a ‘master mould’ from a mould making company in stoke.
There is no information about the faces of the mould, or where it came from originally.
.... Potterycrafts Ltd,"
Conclusion - they will remain a mystery as to who they are. The mold is still available along with the opposing pieces. Also a mystery. I have just the one side in two colors.
So I guess I can call my set rare and a mystery.
If anyone likes them and wants to make their own contact Potterycrafts who lists them as "Gothic – Medieval Numbers 12, 13, 14, and 15."
UPDATE- as of March 19, 20022. - A few days I had a lead on a possible chess mold supplier in England. I found their website and the molds for this set. I have contacted them but have not heard back from them. For any who are following this the company's name is Pottery Crafts' see "potterycrafts.co.uk". Until I hear back from them, I still do not know who these pieces represent or who designed them - but know now there were molds made.
_____
They are metal. I have a full chess set of these chessmen and I have no idea where they came from, who made them, or who they represent. I did locate a photo of a bisque ceramic set on Face Book Market Place U.K. They are the same characters only the poster has also posted the other side of his set which are different characters . And they are a mystery to me as well. The UK seller said he made them over twenty years ago and doesn't recall where he got the molds. However I suspect my set may have come from the same molds - but still who made those- who are these people? Help me solve this mystery - someone - please?
I wish I could help -- they look *very* cool, whoever they are!! :-) :-) :-)
