1975 Winged Sun Screenprint
Approximately 39" x 15"
This is a large screenprint I picked up recently. It depicts the winged sun. The print has some damage...looks like someone tried to stain the frame and it ran onto the side. I have performed some successful cleaning and plan to do another round.
The winged sun disk is highly symbolic representing the Union of Horus the falcon God and Ra the sun god, the Two Lands of Egypt and a symbol of the rebirth for the Kings.
BEFORE WE WALKED LIKE EGYPTIANS
The winged sun symbol was found throughout the ancient Near East.
"The winged sun is a solar symbol associated with divinity, royalty, and power in the Ancient Near East (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and Persia)."
HORUS
"To the ancient Egyptians, Horus was one of the most important deities. He was commonly depicted as a falcon-headed god with a double crown. "
"Horus was believed to be the god of war and the sky, and was married to the goddess Hathor."
