The house I am working in at the moment is over 200 years old so all of the original timber work was hand made with moulding planes. When I need to replace a piece of skirting for example, I have to use my Record No. 405 multi- plane to reproduce the profile. Although I originally bought this plane to add to my collection of old tools, I have gotten far more practical use from it than I ever expected. It is very complete with original box and fittings, all its paperwork, and full compliment of blades which are still razor sharp. Even the spur cutters are still in their original little envelope. My next job is to make two replacement window shutters.

I love old tools.... it's even better when you can use them. I had recently used my 100 year old spoke shave to do some small work. Still sharp as a razar...

I agree, spoke shaves are nice tools to use and such a wide range of designs.

Sorry..I meant draw knife, not spoke shave..

very nice plane. Isn't it a great feeling when you can use an antique and loved tool for a repair chore?

It certainly is Hotairfan, and thanks for commenting.
