Two tools used to catch allusive livestock on your homestead or farm.
Pictured are ...a Hog Catcher (larger of the two), and a Turkey Catcher (smaller of the two).
To use them, you stick a pole or stick into the socketed end and fasten a line to the other end (it has a hole in it to tie the line fast).
When the ends are separated, the hooked ends also separate. This separation allows you to grasp the leg of the hog (using the large catcher) or grasp the leg or neck of the turkey (using the smaller catcher). Pulling the end of the rope, the hook closes up, thus trapping the animal in haunches so you can haul them closer to you.
When you hook on to the animal and are holding the line, the pole that was in the socket falls out of the socket, so it doesn't hit the livestock or the farmer.
I am not aware if they made these commercially. I think that they do, but both of these catchers are blacksmith made.
I bet that's a fun ride...
