Paid $1.00 for it at a church sale. Not sure what it is, Just thought it was cool and had to have it. It’s very heavy.

Nope, not an amp. Its main component is a power transformer, and the way its leads connect to the various terminals and the socket would suggest to me that it is a *power supply* chassis for something, which was both 'controlled by' and 'controlling' other things in turn. It could have held a vacuum tube in the octal socket, that together with the (brown) resistor component might have provided a rudimentary DC switching signal to at least a couple of the screw terminal connections.
I agree, its a cool little old box, no matter what it is! <lol>
Thank You’ You’ve totally confused me with all that information (lol) I’ll just keep it on a shelf.
In other words: a switch (like those in your wall to turn lights on and off) is hooked to the so-labeled terminals so it turns on/off this box, which then makes other electrical things connected to the other terminals turn on/off.
Without a tube in its socket, it likely doesn't do ANYTHING at ALL, right now...

Oh WoW, Dave -- its from a Hammond S-6. Which would perfectly explain why I didn't recognize it immediately, the S-6 was a kinda low-end home model even back in its day -- not the least bit desirable now even if a functional one could still be found -- so I actually *haven't* ever seen one of these specific assemblies. Show me any odd similar looking random bits from inside a Hammond B-3 model OTOH -- I'll recognize those at first sight, even out of context! <lol>
To curiousntx -- you paid a proper price for it. :-) You won't ever be able to use it for anything but a bookend or doorstop, but it'll make a great one of those?!! You might consider neatly cutting the power plug or cord off of it, just for "safety" if not because it'll ultimately get in the way of your books, but even if you don't and it *did* get plugged into a live outlet, it wouldn't really be terribly hazardous at all unless the cord or plug is now rotten rubber. Be creative -- have *fun* with it!
