These were purchased from a local dealer/collector who assured me they are Leather or Gasket Cutters. I know that they look like cookie/biscuit cutters, but they seem overbuilt for that purpose. The cutters are thick steel, the edge is tapered like a leather punch, and the frames are cast brass. Looking for verification!! Thanks, Lou

I would certainly believe it, Lou! In the organ shop we use similar things (called 'arch punches') ranging from a fraction of an inch to several inches across in size, as much or more to make 'circles' from various materials than to actually punch holes in them. The wooden handles on yours are unique, suggesting they'd be used 'by hand' instead of being struck with a mallet (like the arch punches) but if properly sharpened, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work just fine to cut thin leather, sheet cork, fabric, or other whatnot kinds of stuff commonly used for gaskets. They are VERY COOL, no matter!! :-) :-) :-)

Hello, AnythingObscure. Thanks!! The cutter definitely resembles the business end of an arch punch! And they are cool looking, I would have bought them regardless of what the seller told me! I am going to give them a try next week on different materials, cloth, cork, leather, and see how things go, they are still sharp!!
