I picked up this chest of drawers at an auction about 10 years ago. It has several hand carved details, a wavy glass mirror which has an attached jewelry box. There are no manufacturers markings or dates. But prior to purchase someone had fixed a split in the back panel with a 1938 Michigan license plate. Any help identifying what type of dresser and style is appreciated. Thank you.

Your 4 drawer chest is American Empire and dates from the 1840s-60s. The dovetailing is very well done.

The mirror is from another piece and not original to the chest.

I cannot see the wood grain very well— color would have me leaning towards cherry. Add some close up photos of the wood and I will take another look.

These have fallen out of collector favor in the last 10- 15 years, so bargains abound.

That 1938 Michigan license plate is a half year plate. Like to have one for my collection...there's some selling on ebay for $20+ shipping!

Don't mess with the tag-- adds to the charm of the piece and indicative of an 80 year repair!
