Pair of framed mixed media oil on board figural paintings of a statue of the goddess Sequana by Marcelle Valentin. They measure 4 3/4" X 4 1/8". They date either from the 1940's, 1950's or 1960's. On the reverse of both are labels with the following inscription; Marcelle Valentin, artiste peintre, et decoratrice 9, Rue Auguste Lancon- Paris (13o). "En toute Sympathie" (in all sympathy) in the artist's handwriting. The paintings are in very fine condition.
Marcelle Valentin (1906-1992) was born in Autun (Burgundy) France. She studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere (Paris) and Academie Andre Lhote (1885-1962). She also studied with Marcel Lemereur-Haut (1898-1986) and d'Henry Valensi (1883-1960).
Notable exhibitions include exhibitions at the Salon des Realities Nouvelle (Paris) in the 1947 to 1955 time frame and the Musee Beaux Arts de Lyon Henry Valensi 1963 retrospective ("Henry Valensi et le Musicalisme").
She is mentioned in the Elie-C Flamand retrospective book on the 1932-1960 Salons Musicalistes (Paris) exhibition artists (published by Galerie Hexagranne, Paris in 1973).
She died in Paris in 1992.
