F4u Corsair

I think it was 1988 when I bought this F4u Corsair kit. Made by Sterling Models, the 36" wingspan model was intended to be built as a radio controlled model. I had no intentions to ever flying it. I just wanted a nice looking display piece. After the basic assembly was complete I gave it a thin coat of fiberglass gel. After hours of sanding I had a hard, tough durable finish. I then painted it up to represent Ace Ira Kepford 's "29" of the "Jolly Rogers" squadron. This hung from the ceiling from 1988 to just a few months ago. Still have it. It just resides in storage under a bed for safe keeping. One day it'll be hung in a more prominent area once again.
