This vase by Iwata Itoko measures Height 20cm (7.9inches), Mouth diameter 8.8cm (3.5inches) and Largest diameter 15.8cm (6.2inches). It is unmarked but comes with its original box minus any documentation that was in the box. It has a very 1980s feel to me. I find it a bit unremarkable but it is a good size, in good condition with some documentation and pretty reasonably priced so I pounced.

The red "chop mark" is a good example of the mark of Iwata Itoko, I think. I am aware of one example of a piece made by Iwata Hisatoshi that bears this mark with the inscription "Original by Hisatoshi Iwata Supervised by Itoko Iwata". This suggests that Iwata Itoko may have been the designer of some her husband's works and that care must be taken in in attributing works bearing this mark.

My first piece by Iwata Itoko. Now just need something by Iwata Ruri!

      You got it!
I love the surface work on this vase, the spatter of blue and green and the gold foil.
      Nice one Kevin.
Now Ruri Iwata works - much harder to find. She worked in the family business particularly with her mother after Toshichi and Hisatoshi died, but did not have a huge production of work under her own name (that I am aware of).

Thanks for your comments, Karen. Yes, always a nail biter when buying a nice piece of glass as to whether it will arrive safely and be as described! Both things were true with this piece. She made more than one of these and they usually go for quite a bit more than I paid for this one. Now for her daughter....
