I have two of these. I have done Google images and searched the Internet and can not find out what they are. I am sure one of you guys can enlighten me.

If its big enough, it looks like the 'helper' handle that'd go on a scythe...?
I think it is called a "nib", used as a grip on a scythe. The threads on the bolt and nut are probably left handed so that the movement of the hands while working will tighten the handle
