Hello everyone!!
So, I'm sure you've all seen your fair share of antique and vintage cast iron piggy banks, as have I. But, this piggy bank has one detail that you rarely see on many others. Instead of it being held together with a single bolt, this one is held together with a single bolt and square nut. The use of the single bolt and square nut is a rather old technique. Spencer & Sons were known for using this technique in the late 1800's thru the early 1900's. I have a few of their doorstops that are assembled in this manner. It's cast very nicely with tight even seams. I'm not sure if this is his original color as this one has been repainted, not by myself, but by a previous owner. I'm also not sure who manufactured this one, but I'm leaning toward Spencer & Sons of Guilford, Conn. It measures right at 7" long.
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!!

Very handsome black pig with a realistic look, and clever bolt & nut assembly it must be strong
Jenni,
Thank you!! Not sure if it's stronger than the traditional method, but I'd be willing to say that it might be a bit simpler to reassemble after emptying the bank.

Thanks Eileen!! He does look good for his age. Though, I don't believe that this is his original paint.
