Extraordinary Chrome Plated Airplane Lamp, Circa 1930
I was away for about 2 weeks now.
I am posting this as the last post of it got lost. I really know nothing about this lamp and apart from the one that I have, I have only seen one, a man in England sent me details of his. The chrome is in excellent shape and the only place I have seen to get one was in England where I got mine over 10 years ago.. The other person who had one seems to have passed on.
The Airplane is done in a plated Chrome finish in excellent shape, which I lightened for the photo, to show detail !~
It must have been pricey and rare in its day. At one time I had a posting of some company that sold like light bulbs. I should have kept that. The piece is large and needs approx a 30 inch table to show properly. It is a lot bigger than models used for the airplane ashtrays and is about 4 times the size of that plane. It must have been a great showpiece in its day !~
A very extraordinary piece indeed!! I love everything about it Phil!!
Gorgeous golden plane, beautiful design & amazing condition for age
Now that’s something special.
Phil, does the body of the plane light up, or just the nose piece? It is really an interesting item.
Thank you jscotto, appreciated !~
Thanks Jenni, nothing golden about it. Its VERY chromed in person, and the chrome is in excellent condition. I had to lighten it to show some of the detail better !~
Thanks toronado, yes the body lights up. You can view light over the top through all the holes in the fuselage, so there is a LOT of light involved. I never measured the bulb but I believe it is around 8 - 10 inches, quite significant.
Thank you jscotto and Jenni, love to the both of you !~
Thanks for the comment Thedecoguy, one of my fave pieces I have to look at every day to get enough of it.
Most Excellent!
I’ll look and see ,,love it again ,every time it comes around !
I finally took a tape measure to the airplane and it looks like the bulb is at least 11 inches for sure and possibly up to 12 inches. Also to note is the plane in the last 3 pics are pics from the auction company. I noticed in the pics there is a cord coming out but while the plane is intact, somehow the cord was taken out. The auction said they never did that so I can blame their pick up courier which I forget their name, not sure Pack/n/ship or Fed ex. I am bad at keeping records as for all the foreign places I have bought I would have at least a storage cabinet full of papers. I know for all the shredding. I believe I bought this from a company called Sworders Auctions.
Hi Phil ! I missed this post it is a beautifully designed lamp . WOW !!
Hope all is well with you xo
