    Hello everyone!!
A short while ago I posted a reproduction cast iron Mary Quite Contrary doorstop. Well, here's one of my original Mary Quite Contrary doorstops. She was made by Littco Products sometime in the early 1900's. Though the reproductions do resemble these originals, the originals are a bit larger and have a slight different configuration. The originals, such as this one, have become increasingly difficult to find and are quite rare in the world of doorstops. I gave her a coat of transparent wax to help preserve her paint. I have another original, and she's a "Blue dress" version. I'll post her soon, but I need to find her in my storage unit. She holds a fairly high value. This original measures 12 1/2 tall, 8 7/8" wide and weighs 5lbs 15oz. Pic #4 shows what the reproduction of this doorstop looks like.
As I mentioned in my previous post, most of us are familiar with the Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary nursery rhyme, but few of us know the meaning behind the nursery rhyme. So, here it is.
Mary referred to Mary, who was Queen of England 1516-1553. Her executions of Protestants led to her being named "Bloody Mary".
    Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
    How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.
    The meaning behind it:
    1. "Quite Contrary" refers to her unsuccessful attempt to reverse her father Henry VIII religious changes.
    2. "How does your garden grow?" refers to her lack of heirs

Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!
    Scott

      Jenni,
Thanks so very much!! She's definitely been a survivor! My other Mary, who wears a blue dress, is not in quite so good of condition, but still very nice!

Thanks Eileen!! She is in great condition. My other Mary Quite Contrary is also in wonderful condition. I'll have to post her as well. She wears a blue dress instead of yellow, like this one.
