These hand painted yunomi are about 3" high x 2" diameter. Marked on the bottom with what I think is a Kutani mark. What appears to be a chip on the rim of one is a flaw in the glaze. There is crackling in the glaze which goes through the flaw. $.99 each at a thrift shop today. There was also an interesting sake set that I may go back for tomorrow. I didn't realize these were porcelain until I set them on my kitchen window ledge in the sun and could see the shadows of my fingers through them.
I rarely see yunomi like these in the wild here so was quick to snag them. They hold about six ounces of sake, about what a tokkuri for one person holds, so these are my new sake cups, though they are really for tea. Taking small sips from them, slowly, is about the same as using a tokkuri and sake cup.
Beautiful pair!
Thanks Jenni! I was surprised and pleased to find these!
