Here is a 7"H x 5"W amber glass bird bookend, a robin on a flowered branch, item #7890 from Viking Glass ca the early 1980s, with orig label on back. Pictured in clear/satin glass in book Glass Animals by Spencer
Beautiful Viking Glass bookend!!!
At first I thought this was a partridge, then a parrot! XD
Lovely tone to that glass, very autumnal I think? The branches and leaves also added are really nicely sculpted, it's an unusual bookend I'll say, I don't often see bookends anyway so yours are a treat to see :)
adore birds
Nicely moulded decoration, colour perfection !~
Thank you for the kind love everybody

Searching I humbly thank you for your awesome praise & kind words about my glass collection, it's great to find the occasional animal bookend like this which has so much lovely detail. Always discovering something 'new' (to me) vintage from Viking Glass is a joy, they had such diversity
Thank you so much Scott for your wonderful compliment about this Viking bird bookend, it's really cool to find the exact piece in one of my oft-used glass books (though I was lucky to get this in the pretty amber color as opposed to clear), sure helps me pin things down like yr made, item # and actual name
Lauren you have the most excellent insight, indeed this bird has been called a partridge but more popularly a robin, and in actuality Viking just named it "bird bookend." To me the flowered branch adds a lovely touch, they look like hibiscus which I love. Yes the amber shade is rather autumnal here, it was nice to find as I haven't posted amber glass in awhile. Fantastic praise as always, thank you!!
Thank you kivatinitz for your sweet comment, I am glad to meet another bird lover like myself, they are so cheerful & right now are singing alot here in NY because it is springtime
Phil thank you for your marvelous praise and you are right, this is a super moulded piece from Viking, I had never come across it before and then to have the orig label is also really cool for authentication. Love the amber color too, and the bird appears to be singing his Spring song as he calls for a mate :)
This is so cool, delicious colour.
Jenni did they make a mirror image for a bookend pair do you know?
Karen thank you for your awesome comment/love & great question, no this Viking bird bookend (as with most of theirs with animals, Blenko too) came as a pair in exactly the same pose, one reason I was OK to just get the one. I was surprised I never saw this before as it really appeals to me loving both birds and hibiscus looking flowers. Love it in the amber too, you know I rarely buy clear glass animals if I have a choice, just harder for me to photograph :)
