Hello everyone!!
Among all of my cast iron ducks is this solid cast iron sink box duck decoy. He was extremely rusted when I took possession of him, but I was able to clean the rust off and seal him with a coat of transparent wax. There are still a couple of very small traces of red paint on top of his head, so, this would have been a red head canvas back cast iron sink box duck decoy. He is quite heavy at nearly 15lbs, but some sink box decoys were as heavy as 50lbs!!! He measures 10” long, 5” tall and 4” wide. I refer this this one as vintage, though I’m not too sure if it’s age, but based on the pitting of the iron and the amount of rust that was on him, I’d say he’s chalked up a few years and sink box duck hunting has been illegal in the United States since the early 1900's. For those unfamiliar with sink box duck hunting, pic #4 shows how these cast iron sink box duck decoys were used back in the day.
Thanks for stopping in for a look!!
