    This cast iron horse is about 7" x 7" wide x 2" deep. I am not sure of its purpose. Perhaps a wall pocket? I kind of doubted it was Japanese until I found a much degraded example on a Japanese auction site. It has a mix of finishes, enamel, rusted and something like urushu. The one I found in Japan had a heavy corded string for hanging it. It has many markings on the back that I have not been able to decipher. Just something I bought to research. I found mine in Dover, New Hampshire.
