Wowser!! That is over the top incredible!! Outstanding job on this one. She's a beauty!
I like that it has the wooden slats on top and sides and leather lock cover. Is the leather covering original? If so it looks to be in great shape. That is a very good looking Jenny Lind.
Thanks for the kind words, jscotto363 ,WillysVa, and everyone for the love.
As for the trunk: Everyone does them a little different, So this trunk was missing the bottom leather on the sides and both handles were shot. I replaced that leather and embossed it with the burner. Everything else was original. I Fabricated 2 new 3 layer handles and holders to the original pattern. All the original banding on the sides and back was believe it or not an ugly dark blue, someone later painted it Kelly green. The side banding was steel (I recovered in new brass sheeting). The rest of the banding & valance I painted black. The slats came off of an 1875 trunk that was destroyed so I beveled the ends, and re-fabricated those to accommodate the copper ends that I made from sheet copper. The slats are not original to the piece, Although makers have used that slat technique or pattern. The lock cover and lid lifter are triple ply leather and copper that I burned some designs into. So many times the tendency is to remove the covering and expose the wood. I wanted this one covered to keep the general spirit of the trunk as it would generally have been. Knowing what it could be,I did take the liberty to make it a higher end model.I'll post picks of the interior
when completed.
Nice one Drill, very nice,
