This 1 1-2"W lobster brooch has a green enamel body & orange claws, with marcasite accents & two red rhinestone eyes, on silvertone. By BJL aka Bohemian Jewellers Ltd of Birmingham England (1946-1960s), this piece ca 1960s
make's me want to throw on a pot of boiling and melt some butter....'-)) later
Very cool and unusual brooch! Who'd have thought there'd be a lobster brooch?!
I also love the fact he's not the usual red of a lobster, but a really great bottle green too. Claws have a great detail, but the really bright wide eyes look so utterly shocked and confused- it's hilarious! XD
Armed and extremely dangerous, reminds me of that song from the very early eighties 1980 !~

Searching thanks for your terrific praise, yes it's a pretty unusual piece but I always wanted to own a BJL after seeing our CW Pebble's collection (BJL in search box here). She has a scorpion by them that is similar in design to this, plus plenty of pretty birds. The co was unique in that it combined beautifully colored enamels with marcasite and they still look fresh yrs later
Lol Oroyoroy, I'm a seafood lover myself but it's always been so expensive here on Long Island, despite living between the Atlantic Ocean & Great South Bay, and home to many fishermen, the seafood prices have always been ultra high. I'm hoping by July 4th we can have some lobster at a friend's BBQ or go to a nice restaurant. Wonderful comments that are making my mouth water!
Lauren thank you for your awesome compliments & enjoying this unusual lobster brooch, I had to wait over a month for it to come from England which was the home of the BJL jewelry co. His eyes do have a stunned look, and I too think his claws are well formed. Great idea to make the body green to contrast with the claws right :)
I loved that song Armed and Extremely Dangerous by First Choice Phil, my brothers & I used to play the 45 of that song in our "record room" in younger days, what a bouncy beat! You're right that this fellow looks quite prepared to fight with those long black pincers, he is not going quietly into the boiling pot :) Fantastic comment & reminder of great music, thanks my friend
Scott thank you for your wonderful praise for this lobster, he should be blushing all red by now! The great thing about this brooch is it's a realistic design, but the coloring shows the designers had a sense of humor
Thank you Penny for loving my green lobster, it's a weird choice that somehow works here. You're always so thoughtful & I really appreciate it
This is a new designer for me, but really neat and lots of detail
Thank you MrsT for your wonderful compliment & love for this BJL lobster, I know, jewelry by them is rarely seen in the US & this had to be ordered from England. A quirky green lobster but it still has me dreaming of some summer seafood!
