Before "The Ramblers Association" there was a group of Gentlemen who twice a year took holidays and recorded their adventures using a professional photographer. They went to "The Lake District" and "The Dales", Cheshire and many other places
I and my Father before me have tried and failed for over seventy years to identify these rambling pioneers
This is a fascinating insight into how people who could afford the time and money entertained themselves in 19th century Victorian England but I have been in contact with all the rambling groups I can find here in the UK and a Professor based in Cumberland who has written papers on the Ramblers Association and the COOP Holiday Association founded by Thomas Arthur Leonard
The early CHA was contemporary with my pictures
[I have digitally combine some of the pictures to illustrate this post]
Fabulous
