Any ideas as to what this is? Assuming some type of needle valve…. I contacted Lunkenheimer and they said it was too old, and that they had no records to let them know what it was.

Hello dpauld, does the round cap on the end pull off/out and does it take the sharp spike with it?
Yes! The spike/needle is attached to the round cap. When I loosen the valve handle, the entire spike comes completely out.
New photo added showing needle removed.
I do not think the needle and valve go together as a unit. To me it looks like a small "Cock Valve" used in laboratory setting.? Just My Guess Tho! Good Luck in Your Searches.

medical tool for animals to drain lungs or what ever ,,. or a barrel tap for wine....lol good luck...
PS: If the needle does go with it, it appears it may be a fine tuning device for some sort of pressure bleed flow control. Ok I'm Done Guessing Now..LOL......I look forward to the correct answer, and Thanks for showing it.

Hello again dpauld, I suspect that the lunkenheimer tap was used by someone in the medical/Vet field to make a Trocar and cannula. The pointed part makes the initial puncture and then withdrawn leaving the cannula in place so that samples of tissue etc can be taken.
Thank you KatsuriPottery! That does seem to be the most likely application.
Also - now that I knew what to search for, I found a very similar device on Etsy. I have added the photo! Thanks again!
BoBo22 - you actually hit the nail on the head. Looks like the device is indeed a champagne tap! New photo attached!
Thanks again to all for the responses and assistance!
