This small wood carving is 4.25" high x 1.75" wide x 1.75" deep. It is not signed.
I have had this small carving for many years and noticed how well it was done, the design, the carving, the finishing, etc., but never thought about posting it, before. I have many wood carvings, most much larger and more grand, but this one probably exhibits the very best workmanship quality of any of them, though it is a relatively small and simple piece.
I have no idea of where or when this was made or who it was made by. Probably just a thrift shop find from many years ago.
I think I know him ! LOL
Its Alive
@blunderbuss2 - You know Uncle Bob? Small world!
@Vynil33rpm - Alive-ish....
Thanks for loving my wood carving Jenni, fortapache, Cisum, Kevin, Vynil33rpm, blunderbuss2 and jscott0363!
There are other similar examples that claim African...not sure if they are just guessing? That's some serious bowl hair cut!
It's not African, I'd say more likely it's depicting a figure from one of the many tribal groups in the Philippines, based on the hairstyle, clothing, and type of drum he's holding, which aren't like anything found in Africa.
Thanks CanyonRoad! I was going to guess South American but didn't want to sway anyone's opinion by saying so...
Thanks, Jenni, joelean44, dav2no1, sherrilou and Alfie21!
