      I'm not surprised these elements work -- there's nothing much that can make them fail except for obvious physical damage. The plugs under the stovetop that they fit into OTOH -- *those* can certainly end up getting burnt into crispy critters, I remember my mother having to have more than one of them replaced on her (expensive!) range when I was growing up...

      Watchsearcher, that was Westinghouse's way of 'featuring' the idea that the burners could easily be unplugged and removed (for cleaning underneath, etc) which *might* have been a (their?) new idea in the late 60's-70's...
