This 5" x 7" oil on canvas is signed E. Primo. There is significant toning to the back, canvas and wood, so it appears to have some age. The toning is a bit washed out by the lighting. It is lightly spattered with white paint.
I have often picked up small paintings like this if they are well done and have quite a few, most of which are very well done. Not too many of them are on a canvas, though. Most are on MDF, wood or paper. I have never tried to remove the spots of white paint on this one...
I packed up a box of paintings I have never displayed before to take to my new house and this was one of them. I have had it for 10 or 15 years but not sure if I ever checked it for a signature. I may have not noticed the signature since it is not obvious. A quick search did not turn up any candidates to be this artist. It is pretty well done so probably not the work of an amateur but more likely a "working" artist from perhaps the 1950s. Then, as now, many working artists had a "real job" sometimes art related and sometimes not. Many commercial artists, graphic desingers, etc., were closet fine artists.
The scene (cypress trees and Spanish moss) suggests that this artist was probably active in the American South East.... A guess...
Thanks for checking out my E. Primo painting Alfie21, Jenni, fortapache, vcal, Watchsearcher, dav2no1, jscott0363, Kevin, Vynil33rpm and blunderbuss2!
