traffic light now showing the house number

Here's a recent re-purposing of one of my traffic signal light collection, now newly helping to make sure my house number is clearly visible from the street. ;-) :-) :-)

It is a single-section 12" light fixture, made by ECONOLITE and commonly referred to amongst collectors as a "bullseye" for its unique (in the signal industry) design of its aluminum housing that resembles one -- pic 3 shows that from the backside, which is now against the wall, held up by a really cool old bit of signal mounting pipe called a 'ball cross' with its own hanging bracket.

Like typical signals, its front door holds the actual lens and is hinged with a wingnut to keep it closed and the wires inside dry. In this case I used an amber (yellow) plastic lens assembly (which actually used to have an early LED light source behind it) and 6" plastic stick-on letters from the office store. I applied the numbers to the front then spray painted it matte black, carefully peeling the letters back off after the paint dried.

Inside, not shown, is admittedly just a little bit of a kludge -- but only a little bit. I didn't have the correct reflector frame assembly so instead I used an orphaned one that just happened to be the exactly correct size to fit onto the back of the lens and be held in place by its gasket -- and a likewise not original but perfectly functional (and safe!) light socket fitted to that.

Add one 11w incandescent sign bulb (rare things, these days!) and a power cord, plus the time outside in the muggy summer heat to hang it up, and here we have it -- yet one more 'light-up funtoy' to adorn my carport, that can also help the pizza dude find my house??!!
