This is a wonderful Longwy vase, high about 22 cm. We bought it in our last trip to Rafaela, from Mauricio Adari shop, I do not remember the price since it was 5 years ago and we acquired several things at that time. It dates from 1930’s as it can be deduce from the backstamps list (L-P04) in the page https://www.libertys.com/longwy.htm.

Wikipedia tell us “The Faïenceries et Émaux de Longwy are a company founded in 1798 in Longwy, then in Moselle, today in Meurthe-et-Moselle, and on the borders of Belgium and Luxembourg. Enamels of Longwy are a type of glazed ceramics using a technique and know-how listed in the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in France. “
“From 1918, the Art Deco style opened up new artistic perspectives for earthenware, particularly through the association with the “Primavera” art workshop in the Printemps stores. During this period, many artists such as Claude Lévy, Jean Luce (1895-1964), Jean Olin or Raymond Chevallier (1900-1959) collaborated with the Émaux de Longwy and created more modern and geometric shapes. The highlight of this period is the participation in the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925. The crash of 1929 in the United States reached France in the years 1930-1931: activity was reduced and personnel decreased. In 1939, the activity ceased due to the exodus.”
The style of this type of faience cannot be confused or mistaken, It was developed by the Italian artist Amedee de Caranza who created a pottery that resembled cloisonne. He developed and perfected a method of printing black lines on the surface of fired earthenware to create a thin, bas-relief wall around each design segment. The individual cells were hand-painted in the studio with enamels -sometimes using as many as 25 different colours- and then the piece was re-fired. Burnt sienna or India ink was rubbed into the surface of the piece to pick up fine glaze cracks or crazing.
I like this vase so joyous and springy (alegre) though here we have the cold winter. Thans so much for looking.
