Can anybody tell me what I have here and about how old it might be? If I restore it will it lose value? Would you restore or leave as is? What type of handle usually came on this type of hammer?

shoemakers hammer head. The shape varied little over time so not easy to date.

With respect, what's to restore? The hammerhead is obviously severely rusted on all surfaces (it's been buried somewhere, for a long time) so is now forever missing any detail or markings it might have ever had, and indeed even its exact original shape and size. Its a cool 'relic' as it is, I can't imagine anything that could be done to it now to improve on that...?? :-)

Would agree with that, a new handle would look odd given the pitting and corrosion on the hammer head.
