Bought this magazine rack with table top. Iron frame, appears deco, has cloth top which has damage and would like to clean if possible. Any ideas as to age, maker, origin and how to clean if possible. Almost feels like oilcloth. The magazine holder portion is green metal. Can't seem to find anything similar to glean info on this. If anyone has ideas and whether or not I can clean the fabric too, if so, with what? Much appreciated.

Very interesting piece. I always look at magazine stands mainly because of my interest in books, in pieces of furniture to store them. Whoever made this seems to have had a lot of talent. Almost as if I see a letter G in the deco design. I am stumped at this, but I wish I had found it !~

Thank you for your positive input. Was hesitant to purchase, but it kind of caught our eye, puzzlement with the cloth covering. Any suggestions as to where or how to seek more information on this piece? Very much appreciate your observations.

Oh yeah -- I would have wanted that too -- how unique!! Looking closer at the top just now and noticing that the 'G motif' (for lack of better words) is also repeated in its pattern, that's just a *wonderful* detail!!
Is the top material physically damaged or just paint (?) spattered? I'd probably try some gentle cleaner to it to see what'd happen, but even if it didn't spruce up much I'd be terribly inclined to leave it exactly as it is and happily call the whole thing "original"...if it did clean up, it'd be an easy enough matter to then de-rust/repaint the metal frame too. (looks like it was a lighter green color than the bin piece?)

My parents gifted me a drum bar with a metal top. It needed love, so I clean the top and added a metal silver color to the hardware. I couldn't think of anything else to do to save it. I will post a picture. By the way, I absolutely love your item.

Thanks for your kind responses. The top is dirty, paint spattered and appears to have some burn marks, well used. Would love to be able to bring out the design, looks like maybe a cat's face. It's just a guess but think it may be oilcloth so not sure how to clean. Will try small area, but do plan to leave as is, just clean up the rust and maybe top with glass. It looks deco, but the fabric seems later by the pattern. It seems somewhat unique as I can't find anything similar, but glad to have found it.

The pattern looks somewhat deco also and must have been very beautiful when first made, one of my fave postings here this week !~
