The Old Mr.Boston "DeLuxe Official Bartender's Guide" is its 1940 edition. Such had been published beginning in 1935. I am not sure if this tradition still exists. Leo Cotton was the primary author, and the book's copyrights were owned by Ben Burke, Inc., of Boston, MA.
The Guide contains cocktail recipes, and bartenders' bar tools as well as suggestions for service.
The Burke's Complete Cocktail and Drinking Recipes dates from 1936. It was written by Barney Burke, and has similar format and content to the Old Mr. Boston book. Books, Inc. owned the copyrights. Each publication complements each other as both have some similarities and some differences.
Many of the recipes in both are still used, and some have passed from the drinks available in these days. It would be great to reintroduce some of the vintage concoctions.
Fantastic vintage cocktail books Ted, it's great to see what used to be popular and which have endured...every night when my grandfather would come home he'd have a Manhattan, and my uncle a Whiskey Sour
Here's mine from 1914..
