We inherited this from mom in law, who was an avid antiques collector. We are not certain what type of material it is made from but people are telling us it's most likely SPELTER vs. Bronze. We just aren't sure.
Magnificent sculpture of Pegasus and Perseus, a truly beautiful antique piece
I have a large artist picault sculpture, he was a great sculptor who ticked off men as one of his best work. The piece is from about 1980 when the H.B. Hirsch foundry in NYC, had finished getting all the pieces together for their work, as the moulds were hidden in France during the war under the floor and after the war they were slowly getting the pieces together. They are made of zinc (spelter) .999% pure zinc., which they called "French Bronze" at the time. The encycl of bronzes 1800 to 1930 features a lot of their work as the author was working with them during the late 70's when they were working on their pieces. Mystery solved, please mark that.
