Another seldom seen item, a vintage bronze survey Benchmark for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Not sure of the era, either early 1900's or mid 1950's. This was located embedded in a concrete light tower foundation in a large rail yard. It was either installed in the early 1900s or in the mid 1950's when the yard was redesigned. During the late Conrail era the yard once again had trackage relocation needs and the light tower was in the way. So they removed the light tower, jack hammered the foundation to make room and the Benchmark was rescued. A railroad employee gave it to me as he knew I liked this kind of thing. In 40 years of collecting I had only seen one other and it was after I acquired this one.
