Small copper print blocks 3"L x 2 1/2"W x 1" Depth of Washington and Lincoln. Very very old. Probably early 1900's. Are these rare because I haven't seen them before. Can anyone add to or correct my knowledge of them?
This is just part of what I was able to find on the internet about these two engravings.
The George Washington Engraving is made by John Chester Buttre (potrait) and William Momberger (border) after a painting by Gilbert Stuart
The Abraham Lincoln Engraving is made by John Chester Buttre (portrait) and William Momberger (border) after a photo by Mathew B. Brady
Both Engraving are made around 1864-1868.
Wow! These are really blocks are really old! Older than I thought. Thank you so much for the information! It is funny because yesterday I found many WW1 bond posters and with them were these pictures (the last two on the right) and they are quite large and I believe are the printings from the engravings. So somehow they must have been able to enlarge prints from these engravings??
