This is one of the best caboose models I have seen. Everything just seems to pop on it. I am thinking it is the silver color. I have a Union Pacific version of this model but it isn't quite as sharp.
As usual with the older Athearn cars this one is an easy to assemble kit. Plus they were more detailed and not all that expensive compared to others at the time. This one is priced at $7.50 which means it was sold rather late for this model. The later versions were the Ready To Run Line which had more detail and peter paint but last I recall they were $15 and meant for adults and not kids.
I have been in a few actual cabooses like these and they make a better than average tiny home. The only thing missing is a bath/shower. They do have Plumbing, stove and so on. The were RVs for train crews in the long ago.
The graphics are so beautiful, what a super catch !~
The Santa Fe used this type of caboose, in the plain jane caboose red, almost like an automotive primer color. I remember seeing dozens of the type, right into the 1980's, on the trains I'd watch. Somewhere, I came across a photo of the type like your model, which, of course, I bought. The SP didn't run directly into KC, then, so I never got to see one, in person.
Thank you very much Phil.
Thank you very much RVolskay. I do have a couple/few Santa Fe cabooses in that red color.
