An op shop buy a week ago is this vase by Tapio Wirkkala.
    The glass is neodymium.
The glass changes from the pink to blue in fluorescent light.
It's signed on the bottom TAPIO WIRKKALA 3539.
I like the combo of pink and blue and have put it with another two vases that I will post soon.
It stands 17 cm/7" tall and is 10.5 cm/4.125" at its widest and 7 cm/2.8" at the base.
This glass is called Neosin and appeared in the Iittala catalogue between 1966-69. I believe 'Neosin' is a derivative of the chemical agent Neodymium whose compounds were first commercially used as glass dyes in 1927. The color of neodymium compounds—due to the Nd(III) ion is often a reddish-purple but it changes with the type of lighting. As mentioned above this unique graduated colour changes in certain lights and no two pieces will be identical.
Cobaltcobold has another version of this vase on CW here:

Very cool. I wonder what it would do under black light?

Iittala ! Thanks. My first thought was Venini for whom Wirkkala did design.
      Stunning colour and form.
Moser developed several different colours using Neodymium. Alexandrit / Alexandrite is the most commonly seen; the others, rarely.

Hi, I've been set back by a computer failure and have been trying to get used to a new one. I've lost a lot of data but fortunately my partner did a back up a few weeks back. I'll go through the stuff again on that piece, I need help with it.

These Wirkkala’s neodymiums are a real piece of art. Heard that Wirkkala himself though didn’t like that much neodymium as a colour. Anyway these rare designs are incredible beautiful. BR, Mikael from http://www.helsinkidesign.fi
